Alex was sick yesterday and because my marketing class starts at 4:00 and it's an hour drive, I knew finding someone to sit with him would be very difficult and I had no luck.
I had a scheduled exam in my marketing class and the professor preset the course by saying he does not give make-up exams
Each exam is worth almost 1/4 of our total grade so missing an exam is significant and I didn't pay $1000 to go down like that
So, I brought Alex with me to class last night. Prior to going in, I showed him where the bathrooms were and explained that if he had to use the facilities, he should just get up and go without asking for permission. He sat - ate some gummy bears - watched a movie and was very well behaved (thankfully)
The professor didn't look too happy - but that's what you get when you threaten a woman who's been in school for almost a decade with a zero on a test.

I am sure it's not easy trying to go to school/take tests/and have a sick child ALL at the same time.
Hope the exam went well!!!
So...do he still feel that college is a waste of money?
I mean you pay all of that money to just SIT there!
YEAH - that totally didn't help his outlook on college courses. Saving all of that money when he could be spending it on valuable video games!
I'm laughing so hard that you did that but I certainly don't blame you and I probably would have done the same thing knowing how I am about grades!
Maybe that will teach the professor!
Amanda - I appreciate your tenacity and ingenuity even though I wish you did not have to resort to such tactics.
Stop in and see me sometime if you would like.

Thanks Mark!! Are you offering to babysit? =) I’m just kidding…
I understand the professor’s perspective to keep rules consistent for everyone and sometimes, things happen. Believe me, I haven’t survived this long as a single parent without having to improvise and made due with what options I have. Just out of curiosity, can Alex receive credit for his class? If we can start crossing these classes off for his college requirement, I might save quite a lot of money!
Your attitude is great and better than many others.
Sorry I can't offer your son credit, but your inspiration should serve him well.
